Bánh Box March - "SNACK INTO SPRING"🍃

Quynh Trang Tran

After the excitement of Lunar New Year slowly settles, something softer begins in Vietnam.

Spring is not just a season 🍃 it’s a quiet beginning.

In Vietnamese culture, the first months of the year are believed to “mở lộc”  opening luck and prosperity for the months ahead. People choose their first meals carefully, visit family, drink warm tea, and start small habits that symbolize growth.

Farmers begin planting new crops. Trees grow fresh leaves. Streets fill with young green colours.

It’s the time of year when new seeds are planted both in the soil and in life.

This month’s Bánh Box celebrates that feeling:
simple joys, light flavours, and snacks that feel like the gentle start of something new.

🌿 What’s Inside This Month’s Box

🧀 Cheese Rice Paper (Bánh Tráng Phô Mai Bơ Béo)

Vietnamese rice paper snacks have become a street food icon. This version is coated with buttery cheese flavor — savory, addictive, and perfect for casual snacking.
A reminder that some of the best Vietnamese foods start from the simplest ingredients.

🍈 Cosy Winter Melon Tea (Trà Cosy Bí Đao)

Winter melon tea is a beloved traditional drink in Vietnam, known for its light sweetness and refreshing taste.
It’s often enjoyed after a meal or during warm afternoons — simple, calming, and comforting.

🥭 Boom Jelly – Mango Flavor (kẹo xoài lắc muối ớt)

Bright, tropical, and juicy. Mango soft and chewy candies like these are everywhere in Vietnam from school snack shops to family road trips.

Sweet little bursts of sunshine.

🥥 Oishi Coconut Sticks (Que Oishi Dừa)

Crunchy wafer sticks filled with coconut cream.
Coconut is one of Vietnam’s most beloved tropical flavors, especially in the southern regions where coconut trees line the rivers and canals.

🌾 AFC Vegetable Crackers (Bánh AFC vị rau)

Light, savory crackers that many Vietnamese families keep at home for quick snacks or light breakfasts.

Sometimes the best snacks are the quiet, everyday ones.

🥥 Coconut Cracker (Bánh Dừa Nướng Quảng Nam)

A specialty from Quảng Nam province in Central Vietnam.

These toasted coconut biscuits have a crispy outside and a deeply aromatic coconut flavor. The texture is unlike most cookies — rustic, handmade, and unforgettable.

🌾  Custas Orion Sponge Cake with Young Rice ( Bánh Custard Cốm)

Inspired by cốm, a famous Vietnamese delicacy made from young green rice.

Cốm has been a symbol of early autumn harvests for centuries, especially in Hanoi. Its gentle rice aroma carries a feeling of tradition and nostalgia.

🍃 Pandan Cream Cookies (Bánh Kem Lá Dứa)

Pandan leaf — often called the “vanilla of Southeast Asia” — gives desserts their natural green color and delicate fragrance.

Soft, creamy, and subtly sweet.

🥥 Alpenliebe Mango Candy with Chilli Salt Center (Kẹo Alpenliebe xoài nhân muối ớt)

Craving that bold Vietnamese sweet-and-salty flavour combo?
Alpenliebe Mango Candy with Chilli Salt Core is a mouthwatering treat that balances juicy mango sweetness with a fiery, savoury chilli salt center, a favorite among Vietnamese candy lovers.

📒 Mini Tò He Notebook — “Từ Điển Hồn Nhiên”

This small notebook is inspired by Tò He, a traditional Vietnamese folk toy made from colorful rice dough shaped into animals and characters.

For centuries, artisans have sold Tò He in village festivals, bringing joy to children and preserving a piece of Vietnamese folk culture.

“Từ Điển Hồn Nhiên” roughly translates to “The Innocence Dictionary.”

A reminder that sometimes the most meaningful beginnings start with curiosity, creativity, and a playful spirit.

🌸 A Vietnamese Spring Tradition

In Vietnam, many people believe the first actions of the year set the tone for the months ahead.

Families visit temples, drink tea together, share sweets, and wish each other good fortune.

It’s not about big resolutions.

It’s about starting gently, with intention.

A good meal.
A kind word.
A small step forward.

Because the beginning of spring is like planting seeds, what grows later depends on what we nurture now.
