How Bánh Box Started
Eight years ago, two Vietnamese-born girls landed in Toronto with big dreams, a little homesickness, and a deep love for the flavours that raised them.
Between juggling school, work, and settling into a new life, something was always missing: the taste of home. Bánh tráng, khô gà, bánh pía, me xí muội… the snacks they grew up loving were nowhere to be found. Grocery stores had plenty of Japanese and Korean treats, but Vietnamese ones? Almost impossible.
Every time a family member visited from Vietnam, they’d plead for a suitcase full of snacks. They’d ration every bite like gold, savoring each chewy, spicy, salty piece of nostalgia. And when they shared them with friends, they’d always hear:
“Omg, where did you get this?!”
That’s when the idea sparked—why wasn’t there an easy way to get Vietnamese snacks in Canada?
